Parent Handbook - 2024-2025
Dear Parents,
Al Ain American School welcomes our students to the academic year 2024-2025.
We would like to highlight the important points to be followed starting Monday, September 9th , 2024,
to ensure the safety and welfare of our students.
These points are highlighted for you from our school policies. Full school policies are available on the school website.
School Timing
7:20 am – School gate opens for students. No students are allowed before 7:20 am at school.
7:45 am – Morning assembly program starts. All students must attend the morning assembly.
8:00 am - Homeroom time starts at 8:00 am and attendance will be recorded during the homeroom time.
8:15 am – 1st period starts. No students will be allowed to attend the school after 8:15 am.
Arrival Time:
Student arrival
(Monday to Thursday) - Gates will close at 7:55 am
(Friday) - Gates will close at 7:45 am
Dismissal Time:
Student dismissal (Monday to Thursday)
- KG Students – Gates will open at 12:30 pm
- Grades 1 – 10 – Gates will open at 2:20 pm
Student dismissal (Friday)
- KG to Grade 10. Gates will open at 11:30 am
Student Attendance
• All students should come to school on time as stated above in the school timing.
• Absence without a proper sick leave will be considered and marked Unauthorized.
• No student is allowed to either
- arrive late to school or
- leave school at an earlier time without proper emails and approval from the school administration.
• All early dismissal requests and late arrival requests should be communicated and shared with the school through e-mail: [email protected]
• Only authorized persons can come to collect the student in school during dismissal. (parents/guardians)
• If the parent send in someone new to pick the child, they must send in an email with the approval and the consent along with the copy of their ID to the school email: [email protected] in order for the school to allow the child’s dismissal bearing in mind the safety and security of the child.
School Bags
• Students in the lower grades are suggested to carry a small-sized trolley bag. The weight of the trolley bag suggested is not to exceed 20% of the student's body weight as per the official ADEK School Bag Policy.
• Students in the higher grades are suggested to carry a large-sized backpack or a medium sized trolley bag. The weight of the backpack suggested is not to exceed 20% of the student's body weight.
• Bring only the books and copy books that are scheduled/needed for each day.
School Uniform
• It is MANDATORY for all students to wear a complete uniform every day.
• Students who are not in school uniform are not allowed to enter the school. (Without a valid reason)
• PE uniforms should only be worn during the day of the student’s PE class.
• Black, White, and Blue are the only colors of shoes that are allowed in school.
• Football shoes with spikes are not allowed to be worn in school for safety reasons.
• Only the official school jackets are allowed to be worn in school. Hoodies are not allowed.
• No caps or head gears are allowed at school unless during any event or when requested by the teachers.
• Parents will be called to school if any uniform violation will be committed.
School Bus
• Only students who are registered to use the school bus are allowed to ride the bus.
• Change of route is not allowed during the academic year unless approved by the school management.
• Switching modes of transportation (bus to car) must be approved by the management. An email must be sent in to the school administrating mentioning the reason for the switch.
• Parents are welcome to come to school and discuss any emergency issues that require any changes concerning the school transportation.
• The Transportation Supervisor’s contact number is shared with parents for any transportation-related questions. (054 583 8608)
• The school should be informed at least 1 hour before the bus dismissal time if a student will be requested not to ride the bus during the day.
Canteen/Food
• Students should bring their own food and water from home.
• Students are encouraged to bring healthy food to school to observe a healthy lifestyle. (Chocolates, nuggets, French fries, hotdogs, fizzy drinks, and energy drinks are not allowed in school)
• Food to be shared in class is not allowed unless the school requests/requires the student to bring so, during events and celebrations.
Birthday Celebration
• Grade 1-10 students are not allowed to celebrate their birthdays in school as per the school’s birthday celebration policy.
• KG students are allowed to celebrate their birthdays in school, only if it is coordinated and approved by the KG Department Head (Ms. Kheira Bourada).
Parents Meeting
• Regular parent-teacher meetings will be held in school to discuss your child’s academic progress.
• Meetings between parents and teachers will only be allowed if there is an appointment requested and approved through the proper channel.
• Parent-teacher communication will be done through class Dojo.
• Parent-school communication will be done through the school e-mails and school landline.
